As new home designers in the Northern Beaches at The Rubix Collective we have listed the various sink types our clients can consider for their home.

Single

As the name implies, the single sink has only one basin. This is particularly useful as it still allows large pans and trays to be laid flat in the sink while being washed. However, it may be inconvenient to ensure everything is rinsed before handwashing. It is recommended to specify single kitchen sinks with a drainboard to avoid an unsightly drain tray sitting on the counter.

50/50

The 50/50 sink is a sink equally split into two basins. The benefit is that each basin is generous enough function practically, however, they may both be too small to lay pans and trays flat whilst washing. They are the best choice for sinks that do not have a drainboard since a draintray can be inserted into one half rather than having to be sat on the countertop.

60/40

A 60/40 is a general term to describe a dual-basin sink that is unequally split. Even if a sink is split closer to 70/30, the term still applies. They work well in smaller kitchens that do not have space for a 50/50 format. The purpose of the second smaller sink is to assist in rinsing dirty dishes prior to handwashing. It is recommended to specify 60/40 kitchen sinks with a drainboard to avoid an unsightly drain tray sitting on the counter.

Triple 

The triple sink is a uncommon option with less availability. For this reason, it is not featured on the specification chart below. If a triple sink is desired, then further research can be conducted on a case-by-case basis.
